A rose in a vase

Dear readers,
today some autumn inspiration

When I was looking for garden inspiration on pinterest I saw how vases or glass jars can be used as beautiful planters. Today I tried it myself. I bought this mini christmas rose and planted it in a glass vase, on top of the soil I put some moss. In terms of drainage I think it might not be the optimal planter, but I really like how it looks and hope I will be able to maintain it for some time at least.

                                                                      Best wishes,
                                                                            Lisa

Rose cuttings

Dear readers,
it has been quite a long time since my last blog entry and today I´d like to show you how my rose cuttings have developed since then. Although many cuttings rotted and thus died before developing any roots, I now have quite a number of cuttings that developed roots and grew into small plants. They are about three months old now and I am very proud of them.

Since I repotted them into bigger containers with rose soil, they have been growing vigorously.

Has anyone else tried taking rose cuttings this year?
                                                                      Best wishes,
                                                                            Lisa

New flower bed

Dear readers,
I think I have already told you that my garden is quite small. I now have over thirty roses and there is just no space for more. Still, there are so many beautiful varieties of roses I´d love to plant. Since my mum has a much bigger garden, I have been successfully persuading her to let me plant some roses and other plants in her garden. Today I´d like to show you the new flower bed in my mum´s garden. We went to a garden centre outside Vienna that offers a great variety of roses and other plants. I was very much impressed by the many old roses they had and it was very difficult to choose some, I would have loved to take them all with me. I eventually chose two old roses, Kathleen Harrop, a bourbon that repeats flowering and the damask rose Ispahan.

My self-made concrete ornament. You might remember the ceramic ornament I formed. I made a silicone mould of it for casting concrete and can now replicate it as often as I wish.

The rose on the left side is Ispahan

                                                                      Have a nice day!

Update on rose cuttings

Dear readers,
as you might remember from a previous post, about three weeks ago I took some cuttings from roses in the hope that they would root and establish into rose plants one day. When I was looking at my cuttings this week I was very happy to find roots on three of my cuttings. Unfortunately I lost many of my other cuttings due to rotting, maybe the substrate was too wet, but as long as some cuttings make it I am more than happy. There are still about 20 cuttings, which haven´t yet rooted, but which still look healthy and I am hoping that at least some of them will still develop roots.
Since I took the cuttings from rosebushes at the Hermesvilla, also see post Hermesvilla and its beautiful roses, I don´t know the names of the roses, but maybe I can identify them once they bloom for me. Here are some pictures of the cuttings that have rooted.

As I was very happy with my small success in rooting rose cuttings, I took some new cuttings last Friday, using a different, better drained substrate. We´ll see how it goes! Please let me know in the comments whether you have ever tried to root rose cuttings and what your experiences were.

Wishing you all a lovely day!
